The harvests really look like summer now!

The eggplants are starting to really come on and I picked the first full size tomato.

Harvest

This week was the first picking of kale along with the lettuce.  I also cut the garlic scapes off and will be finding different ways to incorporate them in our meals.

Harvest

I pulled the rest of the radishes.  I am not very good at pulling radishes on time and they become quite hot because of it.  Many of my radishes never formed the root part so I mainly harvested a bunch of radish greens.  But the exciting part is that I harvested some lettuce.  We are actually have some success with lettuce this year compared to the past few years.

Harvest

These were the final few carrots left from last year's fall plantings that I dug up when I cleaned out the garden on Friday.  They aren't pretty but they are super sweet and delicious, I will definitely be planting Napoli carrots again this year.

Harvest

Last week the ground was finally dry enough to dig up some carrots and parsnips.  I have been harvesting a little at a time because I am curious to see how well certain items will keep in the ground.  The Napoli carrots are doing great and super sweet.  I have left a few in the ground to continue to test them.  The parsnips are OK, the cores are very woody and they should have been pulled awhile ago.  The leeks unfortunately did not make it through the deep freeze and snows, they are still standing but beginning to break down.

Harvest

I cut the rest of the swiss chard and some oregano for soup.  I am surprised that the chard has made it this far, I expected it to die back by now.  I have left a few small leaves to see if when it warms up the plants start growing to provide some early greens.

Christmas Harvest

Even though the weather is turning nasty we are still collecting from the garden.  All of these items are being used in our meals for Christmas.

I have been keeping the leeks, carrots and parsnips in the ground for storage.  I have never had success with carrots so I was thrilled to see such beautiful large carrots.  The parsnips were also surprisingly big!

I also collected some thyme, oregano, and sage.  The swiss chard has not died back yet so I collect some for vegetable soup.

Rosemary

The rosemary is actually looking pretty good for December.  I got a variety that supposedly will make it through the winter but it has been quite mild so far.

I cut about half of the rosemary to dry for holiday gifts.

Harvest

I cleaned out the tomato plants this weekend so this is what was left on the vines before I chopped them down, plus a baby zucchini.
