Indy

Every summer I look forward to the weekend we go to Indianapolis to spend time with my sister and her husband.  We normally see them when there is a holiday or an event going on, this visit is always just cause to spend time together.

We climbed 32 flights to the top of Circle Monument in downtown.

As usual we ate our way through the weekend.  I've heard that a Mexican Coke is better because they use sugar cane instead of corn syrup.  So when we went to a candy and soda shop I found one and had to try it.  We also did some olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting.  We walked away with a sun dried tomato oil and pomegranate vinegar.  It was a great weekend!

Indy

Over the weekend we went to Indy to visit my sister and her husband.  We started off the weekend with a trip to the state fair.

On Saturday we made a trip out to Traderspoint Creamery, an organic, sustainable dairy.  We took the "tour" which turned out to be nothing but a walk down a gravel road to a field with a few cows in it.

Multiple times we were warned about the electric fences and not upsetting the bulls while out in the fields.  We didn't quite get what the big deal was until we got out there and realized the only fence between us and them was a single electrified wire (which you can sorta see below) and wouldn't stop a charging bull.

I got a lot of pictures of the animals but none of the humans, whoops.  We spent the rest of the weekend eating some good food and catching some Olympics.  Overall a great weekend with family!

Jamaica Mon!

I've been away for awhile because life has been busy and oh yeah, we went to Jamaica.  We were lucky to get to go on a work trip for Andy's company.  It was wonderful to get away and spend some time relaxing.

The water and countryside was beautiful!

The view from my beach chair.

What's better than coconut milk and rum straight from the coconut?

Michigan

The Kennedy's celebrate the holidays in Petosky, Michigan every year from December 26th -30th.  This was the first time ever that we arrived and there was no snow.  Normally we arrive with a good foot on the ground already, the only snow around was the man-made kind on the slopes.  Unfortunately this meant there was no sledding or ice skating this year.  However we still had a lovely time.  I normally take a slew of pictures but these are the only few I got this year:
Normally the bay is covered in ice and snow and too treacherous to venture out this far.

A few of the 18 Kennedys in attendance on this trip.

On our last morning the bay started to look how we normally see it.

North Carolina

I mentioned we were out of town for 4 days.  Andy had a work trip in Charlotte that I tagged along on.  He does marketing for his company, he has a couple of roles but his main role is all of their videos for external and internal purposes.  On the way home we stopped in Asheville because that is where we honeymooned and Sunday was our anniversary.

Indianapolis

We got to spend the weekend in Indy with my sister and her husband this past weekend.  Indy is only 2 hours away but with schedules we haven't been in a year which was way too long.  I miss having her around but it does provide us the ability to get out of town.  Knowing how granola I have become in the past 2 years Tiffany and Tom took us to 2 of their local farmers markets.  The market I go to is only about half the size of their markets so I was really impressed, I'm hoping our markets continue to gain momentum and grow.

We also went to a local winery and brewery for tastings.  We had a blast at the winery, Easley Winery.

We had a great time continuing to explore the local Indianapolis life and had a wonderful time visiting!  The next time will hopefully be in less than a  year.

Indy

We spent our weekend in and around Indianapolis to visit my sister Tiffany and her husband Tom.  Knowing my penchant for local, organic, sustainable food they made sure to take us to places that would fulfill these preferences.

Our first stop was a local cajun, creole shop called Yats.  They make all sorts of stews, etouffees, and curries atop rice.  It was quite yummy but I was too busy eating to take pictures.

The next stop was a cupcake place called Holy Cow.  They used to sell their cupcakes at a Farmers Market but sold out too fast that owner has opened up a full shop.

They took us to their local butcher shop and I was in heaven!  I only wish I could find somewhere like this in Cincy.  All of their meat was free range, humanely raised, grass fed, and never given hormones or antibiotics.  They also sold wild, sustainably caught fish which can be even harder to find.  I am very jealous of this shop.

For brunch we went to a cute, local restaurant called Bubs.  They grow their herbs and some of their veggies in the back of the place.  The decor inside is bright and welcoming.  Orange juice served in wine glasses and water in glass jars.  The food was excellent and even though we had to wait awhile the free coffee, and walk along the Monon (bike trail) and downtown Carmel made it worth it.

We had a wonderful weekend trip with Tiffany, Tom, and of course the fur baby Reagan.
