Newport Garden Walk 3

Garden 6

I think I am in love!  This garden was my absolute favorite of the day.  From the front, side, and back the entire house had a cohesive look.  The theme of this house was wine, they had many wine accessories and decor in the garden.  The garden felt like a retreat almost like being on vacation, it was beautiful.  There are tons of pictures, enjoy the tour!

I was really intrigued by the use of pussy willows in the containers by the door, they added some great visual height.  A wrought iron gate piece was used to create a wall in the mulch bed, loved it!

A quick walk to the back and a creative way to hide an air conditioning unit.

I enjoyed the lattice covered with vine to create more backyard privacy.

Loved, loved the mantle.  The owners said they found it in the basement when they moved in.  I would have never thought to include it in my garden.

Coca-Cola bucket kitchen garden.

The Patio

Wine bottles used as decor in multiple places.  Also next to the mantle was a type of grass called King Tut.  I had never seen this kind of grass before, it feels like it is from a beachy place.

Wine bottle lantern.

As you exited they had cement stones that looked like tree trunks.

I wish I could go back and enjoy their garden all over again.  I wonder if they would let me in if I came over with a bottle of wine?

Newport Garden Walk 2

Garden 3

The walkway up to garden three was complete concrete.  I liked how the owner made the space green with a bench, plants in containers, a potting station and wall decor.  To enter the garden you had to pass through the pergola/archway.

I liked the use of candles and mirrors in the garden.  I had never thought of using mirrors in the garden until I saw this worn one on the side of a shed.  In the picture below a mirror was used on the back fence to make the garden seem like it extended farther than it did.  You can also see the candles on the rock that the gardener had spread throughout the garden.  I bet the candles create a warm glow and intimate feel in the evening.

Garden 4

This garden was for the ultimate entertainer.  They had a pool, three tiered deck system, and bar with high definition TV.  They showed how even with all these things how you can landscape around them.  Neatly tucked behind the U shaped hedges was their vegetable garden so that it didn't compete with the party atmosphere.

I loved the wrought iron piece that held an herb garden right outside the kitchen door, very convenient!

Garden 5

This garden wasn't necessarily spectacular.  But I liked it because the side and back of the house was 95% concrete.  The gardeners showed how you can still create a green space with lots of groupings of containers.

Newport Garden Walk 1

Over the weekend I went to the Newport Garden Walk in Newport, KY with my Mom.  I had never been to a garden walk so I was really curious to check one out.  Needless to say I wasn't disappointed, I saw many great gardens, collected lots of ideas and took countless pictures.  They also had vendors with wonderful plants and garden accessories.

I was impressed by the organization of the event.  They had easy and accurate maps to direct you around the neighborhood to the different gardens.  Additionally we were given a handout that had a short blurb about each house and the owners top ten plants.  These plants were then labeled in each garden and each house had a different set of numbers so that you wouldn't get plants confused.

It is going to take me many posts to cover the walk but here were some of the highlights:

Garden 1

The most interesting part of this Garden was that the owners collected all types of bricks.  They have built all the brick walls around the garden using the different unique bricks they have found.  No one brick is alike.

I really enjoyed how they added their blueberry bush and veggie plants into their landscaping as you can see below.

Garden 2

This was a cute backyard paver patio surrounded but beautiful plants.  I liked how in the middle of the patio they left a bit of dirt for some grasses and ground cover.

I was surprised and thrilled to see the crepe myrtle plant in the back of the breeze way.  I want a crepe myrtle but didn't think they would grow this far north.  However their extra 10 miles south of me just might make the difference.
