Planted

I have planted most of the tomatoes.  Part of me can't believe it is already time and the other part of me is chomping at the bit.

To plant my tomatoes I dig really deep holes, about 10-12 inches and then adjust based on the plant size.  I like to bury most of my plant because it creates a better root system and then you are left with a short sturdy plant to grow in.

I amend the soil in the hole with eggshells, aspirin, bonemeal and tomato tone.  This is a mix that I have picked up along the way.  I do about a palmful of each except the aspirin, I use about 2 per plant.  Put a little soil above the amendments, plant the tomato, fill in with dirt, and water.

  1. I never heard of tomato tone before; what is the aspirin supposed to do for the plant? That is a new one on me.

    1. Tomato Tone is a fertilizer by Espoma formulated just for tomatoes. The aspirin helps to jump start the immune system. I first read about it on Love Apple Farms blog and then read research about it also.
