Diseases

The bottom leaves of all the KY Wonder Kentucky pole beans look like this.  I cut them off in hopes that whatever the issue is it won't spread.

The bottom half of the peas are covered in the white powdery mildew substance.  I am not sure what to do about it.  I'm not sure if there is enough air flow with the teepee supports and the dense planting.

  1. Not sure what got yours, but I lost my entire bed to bean rust. I was able to salvage a couple bowls full, but I've cleared the bed completely.

  2. not too sure about the beans, but peas are quite subject to powdery mildew. Usually it seems to be brought on (at least in my garden) by weather stress; when it gets too hot and the soil is drying out too fast they get PM. By then they are done for and I"m pulling them out to plant summer crops anyway. I have read of spraying things like garlic, milk or compost tea on plants for PM but I've not tried it myself.
